Join Us for the Great Southern BioBlitz: October 24th-27th! 🌍✨

The Great Southern BioBlitz (GSB) is back this spring, running from October 24th to 27th, and we’re thrilled to invite you to participate in this incredible event that spans the Southern Hemisphere!

What is the Great Southern BioBlitz?

The GSB is an international initiative for intense biological surveying, aiming to document as many living species as possible within local government areas using the free and user-friendly iNaturalist platform. This event is a unique opportunity to:

  • Engage with your local community and like-minded groups.

  • Raise awareness about biodiversity in your area.

  • Contribute to an accessible inventory of your region's biodiversity.

Inspiring Stories of Collaboration

We are proud to have the support of organisations like the Botanical Society of South Africa (BotSocSA), the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), and the Custodians of Rare and Endangered Wildflowers (CREW). These groups leverage the GSB to promote community involvement in biodiversity monitoring and education. Imagine the possibilities if your network joined this growing movement to celebrate and protect nature!

Why Participate?

Over the years, the GSB has proven to be a powerful tool for connecting people to nature, inspiring participants to explore their local environment while learning about the diverse flora and fauna that surround them. Whether you’re in a bustling city, a quiet town, or a remote rural area, the BioBlitz offers an exciting chance to discover and document species alongside others in your community.

How It Works

  • The event runs from Friday, October 24th, to the end of Monday, October 27th.

  • Participating groups define their observation areas based on local government, state, or country boundaries.

  • Participants aim to find and photograph as many species as possible within the event timeframe.
